Downloadable Woodworking Plans that Work There
are many sources that offer downloadable woodworking plans on the net,
but as I learned when I first started woodworking not all plans are
created equal.
When I was worked at my first woodshop I was
helping out a guy who had been working there for years as a custom
cabinetmaker. I was to be his “gopher” for the next few
days. You know “gopher this” and “gopher that.”
We were
building a bar for a local business and I noticed he was building one
section different from the way the engineer had drawn it on the
print. I thought I was being smart by pointing out his mistake.
“You show me a way to do it with the equipment we have available and I’ll be glad to give it a try, smart@#$.”
I
quickly came to the realization that it was possible to do (but kept my
mouth shut) but not nearly as efficient as he was doing it.
The
point of the story is some of the plans that you find are made by
people who have not shop tested them, which will cause you to have to
come up with a way around different problems.
Good woodworking
plans are made by people who actually do the work and can give you
step-by-step directions on how to get the job done. This is the
case with WOOD magazine. All the plans available through them
have been done by real woodworkers and show you how each step is done.
They offer downloadable plans that you can get straight from the net and print out on your computer.
Here is a list of categories available. Among these categories are 100’s of different plans for all skill levels.
