Cutting Optimization Software

Cutting Optimization Software (also known as nesting or panel optimization software) is used to get the most from your plywood and sheet lumber. You can change the program to optimize for the least amount of cut or the least amount of waste. Most programs will generate a diagram showing the most efficient use of your lumber and a material list.

With good nesting software you’ll be able to import your design from your CAD program so you won’t have to retype all the parts and dimensions.

There are many cutting optimization programs that can be found on the web but I want to keep my list to a minimum by only recommending the best.

CutList Plus

CutList Plus is the best optimization software I have found so far. Not only a cutting optimization program, it also acts as a board foot calculator, a cost estimator, and if you’re lucky enough to own a CNC router you can export files directly to your CAM program.
